Who We Are And What We Do

At MOTIV, we believe that every child has the right to the best start in life.

We are an award-winning organisation that works with primary and secondary schools across the country to improve attendance and raise children’s aspirations – easily, effectively and sustainably.

The MOTIV 100% Challenge is simple. We challenge pupils to get to school on time, every day, all term. They receive exclusively designed badges at each half-term if they do so, and if they complete a full term every pupil receives a reward tailored to their year group and their school.

We operate the Challenge on two levels: 100% attendance and 100% effort for attendance. This dual approach celebrates the achievements of everyone, from hard-working, responsible pupils to those who make a significant effort to improve their attendance record. Pupils appreciate this system; for them, it feels fair – and that motivates them.

We understand the power of popular culture, and work with some of the most celebrated youth  and family brands and products to offer low–cost rewards that generate genuine excitement among pupils.

It’s not just about reward, however: through The MOTIV 100% Challenge and The MOTIV 100% Experience, we demonstrate just what can be achieved through hard work, teaching pupils valuable skills and raising aspirations in the process.

And we’re successful: every school that engages with us sees tangible improvements in both attendance and pupils’ and parents’ attitudes.

The MOTIV 100% Challenge isn’t easy, but it is rewarding. Pupils learn valuable skills that will serve them well both at school and beyond.

Why?

It is vitally important to work with young children to promote the message of good school attendance. Bad habits start young. Primary school pupils in particular are too young to comprehend the detrimental affects that missing days off school unnecessarily, will have on their whole future. That’s why MOTIV celebrates excellent attendance with the use of popular culture associations that appeal to their age.
Director – Rose Marley

Although the directors of MOTIV are concerned with wider issues of youth exclusion and barriers to social mobility, they have chosen to focus on school attendance as it includes every pupil in every school in the country. The affects of poor attendance are wide reaching on the society and the individual:

Children excluded from school and persistent truants are at greater risk of growing up to become vulnerable adults living on the edges of society. They will not only become less able to form relationships or find jobs but they will also go on to make huge demands on the NHS, social services and the criminal justice system

MOTIV is a Community Interest Company set up by Directors Lee Stanley and Rose Marley to inspire and motivate young people utilising private subsidy to address public sector need.

Young people today are living in a fragmented society that presents many opportunities to disengage and no longer aspire to reach their full potential.
