School Pupils Rewarded with a Summer Holiday treat from Lancashire County Cricket Club

lccLancashire County Cricket Club are treating youngsters from Salford and Oldham schools to a day to remember in recognition of good school attendance. Pupils from Walkden High School and St Ambrose Barlow in Salford ‘teamed’ up with pupils from Oldham’s Crompton House, North Chadderton and Bluecoat schools to meet their cricket heroes.The Attendance Challenge has been organised and promoted by social enterprise MOTIV working with the School Attendance Improvement Service and Extended Schools Service in Oldham and Children’s Services in Salford. The Attendance Challenge which ran across the Spring Term in Salford and Oldham’s primary and secondary schools offered badges and rewards for excellent or improved school attendance. The Attendance Challenge rewarded school attendance in two categories 100% Attendance and 100% Effort to promote positive habits and motivate school pupils through the winter months.

Lancashire’s Cricket Manager Mike Watkinson commented ‘Regular attendance is an expectation from your manager in any professional career and a poor attendee would simply not be acceptable in any kind of team, so it’s a great illustration of the point. We are delighted to help in getting the message out there.’

The pupils watched Lancashire’s First Team squad train at Old Trafford followed by a meet and greet with the players before being treated to a cricket lunch at Chorlton’s Jam Street Café. This is in addition to the one hundred sets of tickets for Lancashire Lightning’s NatWest Pro40 match against Worcestershire Royals which were awarded at end of year assembly’s in schools across the two authorities.
