Badges & Rewards – Who to Award
The MOTIV 100% Challenge is a rewards based initiative which encourages excellent attendance attitudes at school over a full term.
There are two categories within The MOTIV 100% Attendance Challenge:
- Badges & Rewards for 100% Attendance
- Badges & Rewards for 100% Effort
100% Attendance Category 100% attendance is defined by the school register showing all present or statistically present marks. The two exceptions for ‘authorised absence’ are pupils whose absence marks relate to a recognised impairment (as the Disability Discrimination Act requires us to treat those with a disability ‘more favourably’) or those pupils granted leave for religious observance.
Badge 1 is awarded for 100% attendance in the first half-term
Badge 2 is awarded for 100% attendance in the second half term
This allows pupils the opportunity to be awarded at least one badge in either of the half terms for their 100% attendance.
For the avoidance of doubt ‘The 100% MOTIV Challenge’ strictly operates within the Department for Education coding for authorised and unauthorised absence.
100% Effort 100% Effort should be awarded to two pupils per class, for those with generally good or improved attendance, who have been recognised as making considerable “effort with their education” over the half term.
The school will determine the recipients for this category in line with school policy but the challenge team provides guidance to consider the following pupils:
- Pupils who have made a considerable effort with their school work or any other outstanding achievement over the half term subject to them having a generally good or significantly improved attendance record
- Pupils demonstrating a significant improvement on the previous half term
- Pupils who have been awarded 2 badges in the 100% effort category
- Pupils who have an exceptional reason for an absence which prevented the pupil achieving 100%
- Pupils whose medical and dental appointments prevented a pupil achieving 100% but where they attended school before or after the appointment.
- Where there is a ‘tie-breaker’ recorded lateness may be used to determine which pupil receives the Badge or Reward
An attendance reward should be awarded to all pupils who have achieved two badges i.e. 100% attendance or 100% effort over the whole term.
100% Challenge – how it works
Badge (half term) + Badge (half term) = Reward (full term)
FAQ
I Need More Badges or Rewards than I have received in my Challenge Pack – What do I do?
Based on previous attendance figures we estimate that up to 40% of pupils on your school roll will achieve 100% Attendance for a half term and 30% will achieve 100% Attendance over the full term. If your school achieves more than this estimate, then the 100% Challenge has worked exceptionally well in your school, and we will be more than happy to provide additional badges and rewards, all we ask is that you request and complete a declaration form.
The declaration form will request your exact attendance figures as entered in the school register for the current term and the previous term so please allow time to access this information and return the form to us in time for your additional rewards to be delivered. To request a form or if you have any further queries please contact MOTIV Support Desk on 0161 282 8380 or support@motiv.org.uk
I would like to reward additional effort badges to pupils in the Effort category – Can I do this?
At MOTIV we recognize and understand that your school may already have a history of rewarding e.g. 97% attendance and above. You can add additional ‘effort’ badges to your order at a small additional cost, if you would like to order more badges please discuss this with your MOTIV Account Manager or contact the MOTIV support desk.
