THE MOTIV 100% CHALLENGE – GUIDELINES FOR SCHOOLS
MANCHESTER SPRING & SUMMER TERM 2009/2010
The MOTIV 100% Challenge is a rewards based initiative which encourages excellent attendance attitudes towards school.
This Challenge will operate from 4th January 2010 – 16th July 2010* with the following holidays recognised:
Spring Half Term Break: 15th February – 19th February
Easter Break: 29th March – 9th April
Summer Half Term Break: 31st May – 4th June
There are two categories within The MOTIV 100% Attendance Challenge:
1. Badges/Rewards for 100% Attendance
2. Badges/Rewards for 100% Effort for Attendance
100% Attendance Category
Badge 1 will be awarded for 100% attendance in half-term 3 (Spring Term 2010)
Badge 2 will be awarded for 100% attendance in half term 4 (Spring Term 2010)
Badge 3 will be awarded for 100% attendance in half term 5 (Summer Term 2010)
Badge 4 will be awarded for 100% attendance in half term 6 (Summer Term 2010)
This allows pupils the opportunity to be awarded at least one badge in the remaining four half terms of the 2009/2010 academic year for their 100% attendance representing an excellent pupil achievement.
An attendance reward will be awarded to all pupils who have achieved two badges i.e. 100% attendance over the whole SPRING TERM (a Crayola reward for primary school children or a MOTIV Reward Card for secondary school children).
100% attendance is defined by the school register showing all present or statistically present marks.
For the avoidance of doubt ‘The 100% MOTIV Challenge’ strictly operates within the DCSF coding for authorized and unauthorized absence. A full summary of the definitions is available on request.
100% Effort for Attendance Category
In the 100% Effort category, up to 10 extra badges will be made available for each Primary School and each Secondary School will be provided with up to 50 extra badges at the end of each half-term.
Up to 10 Crayola Rewards will also be available for each Primary School at the end of SPRING TERM and Up to 50 MOTIV Reward Cards will be available for each Secondary School at the end of SPRING TERM.
The school will determine the recipients for this category in line with school policy but the challenge team would recommend priority to be given to the following pupils:
- Pupils demonstrating a significant improvement on the previous half term; the challenge team would request that at least 50% of these badges and rewards are given to the pupils who have statistically demonstrated the ‘most improvement’ from the previous half-term (for badges) or the previous term for Rewards.
- Pupils who have been awarded 2 badges in the 100% effort category.
- Pupils who have an exceptional reason for an absence which prevented the pupil achieving 100%;
- Pupils who’s medical and dental appointments prevented a pupil achieving 100% but where they attended school before or after the appointment.
- Where there is a ‘tie-breaker’ recorded lateness may be used to determine which pupil receives the Badge or Reward
- The two exceptions for ‘authorised absence’ are pupils whose absence marks relate to a recognised impairment (as the Disability Discrimination Act requires us to treat those with a disability ‘more favourably’) or those pupils granted leave for religious observance.
- Please note there is resource available ‘100% Challenge and The Snow’ available on request from MOTIV.
Where a school would like to award more badges and rewards in the ‘Effort Category’ than are available through this funded program schools can either fill in a declaration form outlining why they require more effort badges and rewards and decisions will be made on a case by case basis and subject to availability. Alternatively schools can procure additional badges and rewards from MOTIV directly for further information on either of these options please contact MOTIV on 0161 282 8280 or support@motiv.org.uk
Badges and Delivery
For the avoidance of doubt where a school has not submitted their 100% figures in time for final distribution of badges or rewards, but has previously confirmed their participation in the Challenge, the school will be allocated 25% of the total number of pupils on the roll. This will be deemed full delivery for the purposes of our obligations hereunder and any additional orders made directly by the school will be charged an administration and delivery fee of £20+VAT.
The school leader for the 100% Challenge will be notified regularly by email (and/or telephone) of any badge and reward order dates they need to be aware of.
All badges and rewards are couriered directly to the named leader at the school and a signature is required on delivery to enable MOTIV to track receipt of deliveries.
Exclusions/Inclusions
The MOTIV 100% Challenge is aimed at statutory school age pupils and therefore nursery school children are not targeted in the badge and reward scheme unless a school would like to include nursery pupils as part of a ‘whole school’ approach. The decision to include nursery school pupils is entirely the choice of the participating school.
The MOTIV 100% Challenge does not include pupils attending 16+ provision.
Additional Sponsored Rewards for Families
Each school will be awarded at least one additional sponsored family reward for use in the SUMMER TERM; for example a Nando’s family meal or Football Tickets. These will be allocated to schools by MOTIV and supplied with the Easter badge and reward distribution but can be awarded anytime in the SUMMER TERM (subject to date and availability of the family reward).
Please note schools are supplied with badges and one family star prize only in the SUMMER TERM. I.e. there are no Crayola rewards or MOTIV Reward cards supplied for Summer Term unless a school wishes to procure these from MOTIV by separate arrangement.
The MOTIV 100% Experience
Secondary school pupils will also be offered the opportunity to reward pupils with a MOTIV 100% Experience in the Summer Term (for example ‘Saturday Morning Rocks at the Hard Rock Café). There will be a limited number of places for these sought after experiences and school leaders will be sent additional information regarding how to secure places for your school or you can contact MOTIV support on 0161 282 8380 support@motiv.org.uk to register interest.
Feedback
We welcome feedback on the challenge from schools and parents. Your comments for evaluation from schools, parents or pupils may be submitted to MOTIV via the contact details below.
Where a school, parent or pupil wishes to request further consideration in either of the categories a Review Form is available on request. It is important to note that this scheme rewards excellence in attendance and it is in rare cases where more than the allocated number of badges and Rewards will additionally be given to the school.
For any further queries please contact MOTIV support desk on 0161 282 8380
*Please note where school holidays and inset days differ from the above authority wide term dates, the 100% Challenge will be subject to pupils attending all possible learning sessions between the start and end of each half term within your school.
